Near Vatnajokull, the largest glacier in Europe
A warm welcome in Southeast Iceland

Halfway between two picturesque glaciers, Icelandair Hotel Klaustur is situated in the southeast, the warmest region of Iceland. Despite its tranquil setting, there’s a lot to see and do in this beautiful mountainous area, with guided summer tours in the vicinity of Vatnajokull glacier and Vatnajokull National Park
This perfect three-star accommodation offers a range of rooms and facilities for the comfort of every traveller and a restaurant to feast not only your taste buds but also your eyes with its spectacular view.
The village of Kirkjubaejarklaustur is home to Hotel Klaustur and boasts a number of natural and historical sites. You can also enjoy a swim in our neighbouring pool or a round of golf 5 km away.
Husband and wife, Karl Rafnsson and Svanhildur Davidsdottir, or Kalli and Svana as they are often called, are the managers of Hotel Klaustur. They both have decades of experience in the hotel business and took over management at Klaustur in 2005. Karl has been a hotel manager in various places all over Iceland since 1975 and combined this vocation with primary-school teaching until 1991 when he turned his attention to hotel management full time. Svanhildur has acted as a tour guide all over the world since 1991 and still leads the occasional tour alongside her management at Klaustur.
Kalli and Svana love travelling and have visited many interesting places. Kalli is a huge sports fan and used to train in track and field as well as handball. Svana enjoys hiking, reading and painting with acrylic colours. The couple agree that Dverghamrar, “Dwarf Crags” is their favourite location in Southeast Iceland, as it is an especially beautiful place. This unusual collection of vertical rock columns is a unique spot to go on a picnic and enjoy the spectacular view.
One of the main emphasis at Icelandair Hotel Klaustur restaurant is the use of local ingredients such as the Klaustur arctic char and sea trout from Skafta. The hotel chef hunts game in the autumn and uses vegetables grown locally. The lobster and mackerel are from the nearby community of Hornafjordur and the ice cream is produced at local farm Brunnhol based on the hotel’s recipe.
